Professional Radon Testing in Hamilton County

Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause overall in the U.S. It's invisible, odorless, and the only way to know if your home has elevated levels is to test. We provide accurate, certified results you can trust.

Understanding the Risk

What is Radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that forms naturally from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It seeps into homes through cracks in foundations, crawl spaces, and basement floors, accumulating to potentially harmful levels indoors.

Long-term exposure to elevated radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause overall, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and World Health Organization. Because you can't see or smell radon, professional testing is the only way to know if your home has dangerous levels.

Hamilton County is classified as EPA Zone 1—the highest risk category. Approximately 1 in 3 homes in our area test above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L.

FAQ

Common Questions

What you need to know about radon testing.

Yes. If we test your home and elevated radon levels are found, we credit 100% of your radon testing cost toward installation of a radon mitigation system. So if you move forward with us, your test is effectively included with the mitigation.
Professional radon testing requires a minimum of 48 hours with closed-house conditions. We place the continuous radon monitor in your home, leave it for at least 48 hours, then retrieve it. You'll receive your results typically the same day we pick up the equipment.
No, you can remain in your home during the entire testing period. However, you must maintain "closed-house conditions": keep all windows and exterior doors closed (except for normal entry and exit), and avoid operating whole-house fans that bring in outside air. Normal HVAC operation is fine.
The EPA recommends taking action at 4.0 pCi/L or higher. Below 2.0 pCi/L is considered low risk—no immediate action needed, but re-test in 2 years. Between 2.0-3.9 pCi/L is moderate—consider mitigation, especially with long-term occupancy. At 4.0+ pCi/L, mitigation is recommended. A radon mitigation system can reduce levels by up to 99%.
If your radon levels test at or above 4.0 pCi/L, the EPA recommends installing a radon mitigation system. The good news: radon is fixable. We offer professional radon mitigation services that can reduce radon levels by up to 99%. Most systems are installed in a single day, and we include post-installation testing to verify the system is working.
The EPA recommends testing every 2 years, even if previous tests were low. Radon levels can change over time due to settling, foundation cracks, or changes in the home. You should also test after major renovations (especially foundation work), after installing a mitigation system, and when buying or selling a home.
Professional testing with continuous radon monitors (CRMs) provides hour-by-hour readings, tamper detection, and certified results accepted for real estate transactions. DIY charcoal kits give you a single average reading, have no tamper detection, take 1-2 weeks for mail-in lab results, and are often not accepted for home sales. For peace of mind or any transaction, professional testing is the way to go.
Hamilton County is designated EPA Zone 1—the highest risk category for radon. The soil composition in central Indiana contains uranium that naturally decays into radon gas. This gas easily enters homes through foundation cracks, gaps around pipes, and other openings. Approximately 1 in 3 homes in Hamilton County test above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L.
While not legally required in Indiana, radon testing is standard practice in Hamilton County real estate transactions. Most buyers request it as part of the home inspection. Our certified results are accepted by lenders, real estate agents, and attorneys. We offer fast turnaround to meet closing deadlines.
